The final step in an output-preparation workflow is to sharpen your photos — that is, enhance the edges and increase contrast. Almost all images produced by digital cameras need some sharpening before you print them or save them for use on the Web. But don't start returning your digital cameras for refunds; they do indeed take sharp pictures. But after you've adjusted, edited, and resized your digital images, they'll need to be sharpened enough to give them back some crispness. Different photos need different amounts of sharpening applied; there is no standard amount that works for all images.
