Character Concept

Whether you are working for a game development company or by yourself, you should always implement a character through a general concept of what it will be. For instance, consider the game environment. Is this a first-person-shooter (FPS) game, third-person, role-playing game (RPG), strategy, or what? Is the character to be a human player or an AI (artificially intelligent) opponent? What is the character's background? Is it human-oid or multilegged with a tail? What type of weapons or objects will it wield? These considerations are vital to successfully developing a quality character because they provide a heads-up preview of modeling and animation techniques that you need to implement, give the character attributes that the player will understand and utilize, and provide documentation details during publishing.
