Read This First. Before Something Bad Happens

I had no intentions of writing this book So here it was, about four weeks before I would be flying up to New York City to teach a one-day seminar to more than 1,200 professional Photoshop junkies. (Okay, it was more like 1,160 pros. 42 people who just wanted a paid day off from work, and one total freak who kept asking me if I'd ever been in prison. I told him unequivocally, Not as far as you know.) Anyway, the seminar was just four weeks away, and there was one session rhat I still didn't have...

Removing Moire Patterns from Coats, Shirts, Etc.

Open a photo with a visible moire pattern like the one shown here . Press the letter L to switch to the Lasso tool, and draw a selection around the areas of the image that have a visible moire pattern as shown at right . To hide our tracks a bit, we'll soften the edges of our selection. This will help the correction we're about to apply blend in better with the rest of the image. Go under the Select menu and choose Feather. When the Feathei Selection dialog appears, enter 1 or 2 pixels and...

Compensating for "Too Much Flash"

Color Aliasing Photograph

Don t ya hate it when you open a photo and realize that either a the flash fired when it shouldn t have b you were too close to the subject to use the flash and they re totally blown out or c you re simply not qualified to use a flash at all, and your flash unit should be forcibly taken from you. even if that means ripping it from the camera body Here s a quick fix to gel your photo back from the flash graveyard while keeping your reputation, and camera parts, intact. Open the photo that is...

Introduction (continued)

There are some things I intentionally didn t put in this book. Like punctuation marks kidding . No. seriously, I tried not to put things in this book that are already in every other Photoshop book out there. For example, I don t have a chapter on the Layers palette, or a chapter on the painting tools, or a chapter showing how each of Photoshop s 10 filters looks when it s applied to the same photograph I also didn t include a chapter on printing to your color inkjet because a every Photoshop...

Color correction for photographers

Sample Image

A bit different, because photographers generally work in RGB or black-and-white. And in reality, digital photographers mostly work in RGB because, although we can manage to build reusable spacecrafts and have GPS satellites orbiting in space so golfers here on earth know how far it is from their golf cart to the green, for some reason creating a color inkjet printer that prints a decent black-and-white print is still apparently beyond our grasp. Don t get me started. Anyway, this chapter isn t...
