Defining Default Global Light for All Documents

The effects Drop Shadow, Inner Shadow, and Bevel and Emboss all share a global lighting angle to give the appearance of light emanating from the same source. The default angle for all layers is 120 degrees and the Altitude for Bevel and Emboss is 30 degrees. You can change the angle on a case-by-case basis for each layer or define a new custom angle for all documents.

To change the angle for the current layer without affecting other layers, simply deselect Use Global Light in the effects options and then alter the angle.

To define a new default angle for all documents, take the following steps:

1. Close all documents.

2. Choose Layer ^ Layer Style ^ Global Angle.

3. In the Global Light dialog box (Figure 7-6), define a new Angle for Global Light and, if need be, for Altitude.

If you find yourself constantly setting the angle to, say, 135 degrees, you can save some time by defining a new default just once.
