Using the Hand Tool

When the image magnification is too high for the document window to display in its entirety, you can use the Hand tool to scroll the image, which is much neater than using the scroll bars. You can switch to the Hand tool by either pressing H or by holding down the Spacebar. The latter is much preferred because it lets you return to the currently active tool after you let go of the Spacebar. The one downside is you cannot use this method while in Type mode.

TIP To quickly fit the document window between the Toolbox and palettes, doubleclick the Hand tool icon in the Toolbox, or press Ctrl+0 (Windows), ^+0 (Mac OS). If you do not want the image to be hidden behind the Toolbox and the palettes when you double-click the icon, make sure that the options Resize Windows to Fit and Ignore Palettes are not selected for the Zoom tool.
