9 Click the OK button to apply the changes.

The image actually shrinks a bit on-screen, as a result of your reducing the number of pixels in the image.

Taz's Take: I often apply a little Unsharp Mask after resampling like this to retrieve some of the image sharpness lost during the resampling. (Please see Chapter 9 for more info on using sharpening tools.)

Note: The use of resampling here discards unnecessary file size and the sharpening helps to restore some of the image clarity lost during interpolation. You will have to make the call as to whether the reduction in file size is worth a) the softening that will occur and b) the additional sharpening step that's now required.
