Q Increase the image contrast.

Point and click midway between the mid-tone point and the highlight end of the curve (that is, at the '/-tone point). Then drag this point up by half a grid square. Similarly, point and click midway between the midtone point and the shadow end of the curve, at the 3/4-tone point, and then drag this point down by half a grid square.

The contrast of the image increases as a result of applying this S-shaped curve: The slope of the curve is flattened (lowered) in the %-tone and 3/4-tone regions, and the image data is concentrated where curves are flattened.
