This histogram shows that most of the pixels are concentrated in the center of the histogram, with relatively few very dark pixels (on the left) or very light pixels (on the right). If we wanted to make the best use of the available tones, we'd move the black triangle on the left to a point that better represents where the darkest pixels are in the image, and the white triangle on the right to a point that represents where the image actually contains some light pixels, as shown in the upper dialog box in Figure 3.25. The result would be a "better" image, producing a histogram more like the lower one shown in the figure. Notice that the tones are spread more evenly in the graph.
