Finding Photos by Their History

Album is truly a program for those of us who appreciate a meticulous tracking system. This program remembers where you got your photos, how you got them, when you received them, whether you shared, printed, or exported them, and how you've used them. So don't get any ideas about sneaking a photo in under Album's nose. It flat isn't going to happen. Album refers to all these details as a photo's history. And just as it captures and retains this history, it also allows you to locate photos via their history.

To find photos using their history, choose FindOBy History and choose one of the following options, shown in Figure 8-6:

i Items Imported On: This option displays a list of devices you have imported images from, the date/time you imported files from those devices, and the number of files that were imported, as shown in Figure 8-7. Select your desired file(s) and click OK.

The selected files then appear in the Photo Well, as shown in Figure 8-8. If you have a single item highlighted in the list, you can simply doubleclick the file to have it appear in the Photo Well.

The search criteria you use to locate your images displays above the Photo Well in the Find bar.

i Items Received From: This option shows a list of who you have received files from via e-mail or from an online service, the date/time you received them and the number of files. Double-click your desired item or select several and click OK. The file(s) will appear in the Photo Well.

i Items E-mailed To: Album keeps a list of all files you have e-mailed to anyone in your contact book, as shown in Figure 8-9. If you want to view the file you e-mailed, double-click the item in the list. For more details on e-mailing files, see Chapter 13.

i Items Printed On: Select this option to see a list of all photos you have printed and the date and time you printed them, as shown in Figure 8-10. Double-click an item to see the photo(s) you printed on that day and time. This can come in handy if you're fulfilling numerous requests for prints for friends and family and can't remember if you printed a certain image or not. For more on printing images, see Chapter 14.

i Items Exported On: This option shows you a list of all the files you have exported, including the date and time. Double-click any item to view the file. For more details on exporting images, see Chapter 12.

Cancel i Items Ordered Online: This option shows you a list of photos, such as prints or photo books, that you have ordered via online services, along with the date and time ordered. Double-click any item to view the file. For more on ordering online, see Chapter 15.

i Items Shared Online: This option offers a list of all the files that you have shared online via an online service, such as Shutterfly, along with the date and time you shared them (see Figure 8-11). Double-click any item to view the file. Details on sharing online can be found in Chapter 15.

i Items Used in Creations: This option displays a list of all creations you have made, when you made them, and how many items they include, as shown in Figure 8-12. Double-click an item to view the file(s). For more on creations, see Chapter 18.

With creations, you have a few other ways to view items used:

• If you select a creation in the Photo Well, you can right-click and choose Show Photos in Workspace from the context-sensitive menu. Thumbnails of the files used in your creation appear in the Workspace window.

• You also can drag a creation onto the Find bar to display those files used. The files appear in the Photo Well. For more on the Find bar, see the section, "Searching with the Find bar and tags."

• You can see if a file was used in a creation by looking at its History in the Properties pane. Choose History from the pop-up menu at the bottom of the pane. If the file was used in a creation, the name of the creation is listed, as shown in Figure 8-13. For more details on using the Properties pane, see Chapter 2.

^ Items in Web Photo Galleries: Select this option to view all items you have used in Web Photo Galleries and when you created those galleries. To see the files used, double-click any item in the list. For more on creating Web Photo Galleries, see Chapter 18.

ii Items in Adobe Atmosphere 3D Galleries: Similar to the Web Photo Gallery option, this option shows all items you used in any Adobe Atmosphere 3D Galleries and when those 3D galleries were created. Double-click to display the files used in the Photo Well. For more on Adobe Atmosphere 3D Galleries, see Chapter 18.
