• If you're not sure how you will use a certain image, it's a good idea to scan at a resolution of 300 dpi. This is usually high enough for the higher-end printing methods, and is not so high that it produces a file so large that it hogs all of your available system memory. In addition, keeping a copy of a file at 300 dpi typically ensures you won't have to scan the image again later.
