It can also be helpful to duplicate the layer, for two reasons. First, you can flip back and forth between the two layers to determine which technique you prefer. Second, you can turn on both layers and reduce the opacity of the top one to alter the effect a bit.
Adjust the opacity of the layer to approximately 60 percent or as desired. Select Filter | Blur | Motion Blur. Enter a value to adjust the angle for the direction you wish the image to appear it is moving in, or click within the circle graphic. Enter a value or move the slider according to the distance you wish the blur to expand. Compare the two images in Figure 9-3 to see how applying a Motion Blur took a simple umbrella and blew it into flight.
