Create and set an adjustment layer

1. Click the Rainbow Fruit & Nuts layer on the

Layers palette.

2. Click Layer on the menu bar, point to New Adjustment Layer, then click Brightness/ Contrast. Compare your dialog box to Figure 20.

TIP You can also create a new adjustment layer by clicking the Create new fill or adjustment layer button on the Layers palette, then selecting a color adjustment.

4. Type -15 in the Brightness text box.

5. Type 30 in the Contrast text box.

6. Click OK. Compare your Layers palette to Figure 21.

Did you notice that the new adjustment layer appears on the Layers palette above the Rainbow Fruit & Nuts layer and its thumbnail is directly above that of the previous layer? The new layer is named Brightness/Contrast 1 because you chose Brightness/Contrast as the type of color adjustment. You created a Brightness/Contrast adjustment layer on the Rainbow Fruit & Nuts layer, then adjusted settings in the Brightness/Contrast dialog box.
