Smudge an image

1. Verify that the Scene layer is active.

2. Drag the Smudge Tool pointer (zigzagging from right to left) from 0 X/400 Y to 530 X/500 Y.

Dragging the pointer back and forth as you move from left to right creates an interesting smudge effect. The degree and effect of your smudging will vary.

An area on the current layer is smudged. Did you notice that the fisherman layer is unchanged?

3. Save your work, then compare your image to Figure 17.

You used the Smudge Tool to smear the pixels in the bottom third of the image. That area now has a dreamy quality.
