Working with Smart Objects

Just as multiple layers can be selected, you can combine multiple objects into a Smart Object. This combination, which has a visible indicator in the lower-right corner of the layer thumbnail, makes it possible to scale, rotate, and warp layers without losing image quality. Once the layers you want to combine are selected, you can create a Smart Object by clicking Layer on the menu bar, pointing to Smart Objects, then clicking Group into New Smart Object; or by clicking the Layers palette list arrow, then clicking Group into New Smart Object.
