Sometimes you may want to add some noise back into a picture. The key is to put the noise on its own layer so it's easier to control and adjust.

Step 1. Open the file Ch10_Grain.

tif from the DVD-ROM.

Step 2. Add a new layer above the photo and fill it with 50% gray (Edit>Fill and choose 50% gray from the pop-up list).

Step 3. Create grain by choosing Filter>Artistic>Film Grain.

Step 4. Set the layer to Overlay mode.

Step 5. Duplicate the grainy layer to increase the noise.
