Your Child Ebooks Catalog
For example, maybe you don't want to mix business with pleasure and feel better if your business and personal files reside in two separate catalogs. Or, if you share a computer with the family, you may want your kids to have their own catalogs, especially if they want to use their own tagging system. Why clutter your Tags pane with tags like Lollapalooza Mosh Pit
As in most CD- or DVD-burning sessions, you have the option of verifying the disk. Even though it takes a couple additional minutes, I highly recommend verifying. Once in awhile the burning process hiccups, and the CD or DVD isn't burned properly. You don't want to find that out after you have mailed the media to your family member or friend or when you need the high-resolution image to make a print and the disk is corrupted, especially if you deleted the high-resolution original from your hard drive.
If using tags narrows down your search, but doesn't quite give you the exact images you are looking for, try using the timeline along with your tags. For example, say you're searching for images of family members taken around the holidays. Of course, all your pictures of family have a nice Family tag attached to them.
It has been my goal to give back to an industry that has been nurturing to me. I sincerely hope that this book makes your job easier and your videos better. Even more so, I hope I can make you faster so you can make your deadlines and get home to see your family and loved ones sooner. Mastering Photoshop takes several approaches be sure to explore the disc, try every tutorial, and make it through every page (even if you read them nonlinearly). No matter what your experience level, I am sure you will come out better for investing your time.
The Clone Stamp is one of my favorite tools in Photoshop, simply because of how fun it is to work with. I've enjoyed using it to perform such tasks as removing ex-family members from photos and adding extra eyes ears nose toes to annoying family members' faces. (In fact, to test this tip while also having a bit of fun, I recommend you try it on a photo of an old boyfriend or girlfriend.)
You may have noticed that Photoshop gives you the option of changing from 8-BPC mode to 16-BPC mode. If you fall for this option, don't be fooled into thinking you will somehow increase the detail. Changing modes upward can be likened to changing a file in a small color space to a larger color space, or a family of four moving from a small apartment to a large mansion. Though they may find that they have more space to move around, they ostensibly remain the same width and height and have maintained the same number of members. In other words, you will have more space between the colors but not necessarily more colors (more space between the family members but no additional offspring). If anything, you will increase the chance of degradation by having to make larger adjustment moves and introducing quantization errors.
The need for color matching is one of the most common situations you'll encounter. Perhaps you took pictures of your family outdoors on a cold winter day, and more photos in the spring in late afternoon. It's unlikely that the skin tones of the two sets of pictures will match at all. Or, you might have taken some product shots and want the colors to match more closely because you'll be printing them side by side in a brochure. Photoshop CS's Match Color facility lets you select one image as a source and then apply the color palette from that image to a second image or group of images.
You can attach one or more tags to a file. For example you may have all of your family photos tagged with the Family tag. Within that group of family photos, some may also be tagged with a Christmas tag or a Vacation tag. This cross-reference allows you to quickly find all family photos or just the family photos that were taken at Christmas or while on vacation, as shown in Figure 5-5. And like I mentioned above, these files can be stored in different folders or on CDs or elsewhere in your system.
Not all your recipients may be tech savvy. In other words, what do you do if your family member or friend doesn't own a computer You can send printed output of course, but then you can't show off your wonderful slide shows and eCards with music, audio captions, and transitions. If they have a DVD player, you can create a video CD (you need to have a CD burner, of course), which is basically a slide show designed for viewing on TV. Recipients also can view video CDs on a computer provided that it is equipped with a DVD drive and DVD player software that is compatible with the video CD format.
Now, without further ado, I urge you to turn the page and advance forward into the great untamed frontier of image editing. But remember, this book can be a dangerous tool if wielded unwisely. Don't set it on any creaky card tables or let your children play with it without the assistance of a stalwart adult, preferably an All-Star Wrestler or that guy who played the Incredible Hulk on TV. And no flower pressing. The little suckers would be pummeled to dust by this monstrously powerful colossus of a book.
